The film 'Single' is Raditya Dika's first writing which is not from a book

Known as a comedian and writer, Raditya Dika currently also active as a filmmaker. Not only starring in and writing screenplays, Dika is now directly involved as a director. Soon Dika will release his latest film, Single, which was his first collaboration with a producer Sunil Soraya (5 cm., Sinking of the Van Der Wijck Ship) from the production house Soraya Intercine Films.

Single it is also Dika’s film project that is said to be the most different. One of the reasons is because the production process is the longest compared to previous films. “Writing the scenario with Pak Sunil for eight months, that’s the longest I’ve done,” said Dika during an interview some time ago.

The First Raditya Dika Film Written Not From a Book

“In eight months, three scenarios can usually be completed, only one in Soraya. Reading that they were first (players other than Dika, red), four to five months prior to filming. I entered a month before filming. It also counts for a long time, usually another PH is only two to three weeks. So with this seriousness, it makes me determined to work together with Soraya and see the results later, “he explained again.

That impression Single Dika’s film will be different, it can be seen from various aspects. Apart from the lengthy process and the first collaboration with Soraya, Single will be the first film starring Dika which is not adapted from a book he wrote (such as Male Goat, Love Brontosaurus, Human Half Salmon, and Pink Marmot), or webseries his creation (Love in a box, Sunday night Miko Movie). Dika also admitted that he felt he had benefited from being able to bring up this new story material through his collaboration with Soraya.

“Previously, I have seen Soraya films like this Eiffel I’m in Love, 5 cm, Sinking of the Van Der Wijck Ship. Moreover Eiffel I’m in Love, I watched it in grade 3 high school. From these films we can see Soraya scalehis grand, production valueso good. That is what makes me want to work together, ”explained Dika.

The story that is lifted in Single also actually new to Dika. So far, he is well known for his material on youth love in his works. The stories in his films usually revolve around the search for the love of the young man played by Dika. However, through films Single, Dika wants to pick up angle different stories from the topic.

In this film, Dika plays the role of Ebi, a young man who has never been in a relationship in his life who finally finds the anchor in Angel (Annisa Rawles), but it takes a lot of effort to achieve it.

“Make a film about a new single boy Single this. Previous Male goat that character has a girlfriend. Love Brontosaurus and Human half-salmon, yeah looking for a girlfriend too. So, the specifics talk being single just this one, “said Dika.

Dika also revealed that the film Single not only dwelling on the single status of young people. Even though this film is a comedy genre, it still raises issues that cannot be underestimated around love relationships. He also manifested these issues in several characters around Ebi.

For example, two of his friends, Wawan (Pandji Pragiwaksono) and Victor (Babe Cabiita) who already has a boyfriend but has a problem, or the character Joe (Chandra Liow), Angel’s close friend since childhood but only considered a big brother.

“On film Single, we’re talking about happiness. It’s true that we are not happy when we have a boyfriend. On film Single we are talking about unrequited love, which is only considered by siblings. Is it true that we have to fight for someone, who from childhood just thought we were ‘older brothers’. So issues that are actually complex, we wrap it up with comedy, “said Dika.

And here we can quote a qoute from the film Single this.

The single can also make us happy, except if the single gets too late.
